Disaster Education Seminars in the UK |
Three seminars on school disaster education were
organised in the Edinburgh Risk Factory, Washington Community Fire
Service, Tyne and Wear and the Hounslow Civic Centre, London in November
2007. The seminars were jointly organised by the Japan - UK Disaster
Risk Reduction Study Programme and each local fire service or local
authority. In Edinburgh, the seminar was jointly organised by Lothian
and Borders Fire and Rescue Service and Japan - UK study programme. This
was the first initiative in working with Lothian and Borders Fire and
Rescue Service and the seminar series is one of the ways in which the
Japan - UK study programme is expanded .
These seminars aimed to investigate requirements for effective disaster
education in schools with a particular focus on people's sense of values
in relation to disaster education. In each seminar, presentations were
given by a fire fighter, staff from a community risk education
institution, an emergency officer and a teacher.
Seminar series proceedings are available from this website. (Sorry,
coming soon.)
